2012 Annual Report: "I Don't Just Want to Live, I Want a Life."

Each year the Baton Rouge Business Report publishes the Cancer Services Annual Report as an insert in one of its issues. This year we were again the grateful recipients of this services, thanks to sponsors Wolseley, Kean Miller, Phelps Dunbar and Capital One and to Jerry and Kenli at the Business Report.

A cancer survivor recently told us when he was diagnosed, “I didn’t just want to live, I wanted a life.” After hearing the words “you have cancer” the first reaction is to focus on how to live. Here in Baton Rouge, we’re blessed to be in a community with wonderful cancer treatment and medical facilities to help our families, friends and neighbors live. But having a meaningful life is more than living and that’s where Cancer Services steps in. Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge is here to fill in emotional, financial and educational gaps that arise for a cancer patient and their loved ones, from the moment of diagnosis through the rest of their lives.
Our mission is to improve life for those living with cancer. We’ve discovered that it means something unique to each one of our clients. For some, it’s a life more supported or a life with less financial worry. For others, it’s a life more independent, a life better informed or simply a life with a little more fun. Our mission is fulfilled differently for every person that walks through our doors seeking a life less consumed by their diagnosis.

More than 4000 families in the Greater Baton Rouge area were affected by cancer in 2012.  Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge was here for them, their family members and their caregivers. In this 2012 Annual Report we’d like to tell you our story, which is really their stories. The stories of how Cancer Services has been improving life this past year, and for the 53 previous years that we’ve had the privilege of serving the Greater Baton Rouge community.
